Hello everyone! So we all know that life comes with it's ups and downs, but you always have to think about the positives in order to keep your spirits up! So when you're having a bad day or feeling blah, just always think about the little things that make it all worth it! Getting through whatever tough times you're having is always a lot easier when you have a positive attitude. I'll be the first one to admit that I need to be more positive and let go of all the negative things that are happening in my life right now. So I made a list of all the little things that make me feel genuinely happy and I would like to share it with you:
1. Finishing a book/getting a new book
As a kid, I absolutely hated reading but as I grew older, I got more into it. When I was in elementary school I was forced to take a reading test called an "AR Test". You had to take one on every book you finished and your test results were counted as a grade. I heard that now they got rid of that which is so amazing, but I wish they would have while I was in school. Having to take an AR Test after every book I some-what read, was absolute hell. I was just learning to read and they expected me to read it fast, understand it completely, and pass the test with an A. Yea, that completely made me HATE reading as a kid but when I finally got to that age where I understood that I could actually read books I was interested in, I fell in love with reading. I used to be a horrible reader but now I wiz through books like it's nothing. The feeling I get when I finish a good book is the same feeling I get when I purchase one. Getting a new book is very exciting to me and I know I sound like a total nerd but whatever, my bookworm readers would understand what I'm talking about! (P.S. the smell of a new, fresh, unopened book is my favorite! I swear, if they made a candle of that smell I would totally buy that shit.)
2. Sleeping in knowing that I had to wake up and go somewhere I didn't want to go
You know that feeling you get when you know you should probably go to school/work but you decide not to and just turn off your alarm and go back to bed? Or you get a call that school's canceled and so you smash your face back into your pillow and carryon with your dreams? Yea, that feeling to me is THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD. If you know anything about me, then you would know that I love my sleep. Even though lately I haven't been able to fall asleep before 2am, sleeping in is still something that is very important to me. Something about knowing that I needed to get up, but don't, is a feeling that makes sleeping in even better. Maybe I'm just a weirdo or very irresponsible, I have no idea! It's just a little thing that makes me feel genuinely happy.
3. Spending quality time with family
I'm definitely a family person. My family, as you all probably already know, means the absolute world to me. So spending time with them always makes me feel nothing but happiness.
4. Laying in bed watching TV/Films
I probably sound like a complete lazy ass by admitting that I enjoy just laying in bed watching TV & Films, but I'm being 100% honest. I'm a really chill person and it really doesn't take much to entertain me once you put something on the television. (Haha, I'm like a little kid!) Being in bed is just icing on the cake.
5. The smell of coffee brewing in the morning
I am definitely a coffee lover. I could drink coffee all day long and absolutely be okay with that. The smell to me is heavenly and the only thing I want to be smelling first thing when I wake up.
6. Going out for Breakfast in the morning
I am not a morning person nor am I a person who eats breakfast but going out for breakfast in the morning is the best. How does that make any freaking sense, I don't know.
7. Walking in the woods
I don't really do this too often, but once Michigan quits with it's shitty bipolar weather, I will start taking more walks throughout the woods. I've always loved the nature and seeing the bunnies, squirrels, and the beautiful trees always made me feel calm and I don't know why, but I always think of Alice in Wonderland and it makes me want to go find a hole to fall in. (Again, I'm a child.)
8. Looking at art
You all know that I love and appreciate art. Just looking at it gives me so much inspiration and it lets me look at life in a different point of view, from someone else's eyes. Art in all forms definitely gives me happiness.
9. Not wearing makeup
This is something that I have struggled with for many years. I used to cake my makeup on and never leave the house without it. In my past, no one but my family and I would ever see me without makeup on; I just would of never let that happen. As I grew older and realized that wearing makeup all the time is not good for my self-confidence nor my health, I wore less and less. Now I have the confidence to be able to go out of the house with absolutely no makeup on, take pictures completely bare faced, and let anyone and everyone see me as I am. When I do wear makeup though, it's very very little and I still cringe whenever I look at old photos of myself with all that makeup on. I'm so blessed that I finally was able to build enough confidence in myself to be able to accept the way I look without any help. That's something that I never would have thought I would be able to do. When you're growing up in a society where looks is everything, it definitely damages your confidence in showing off your natural beauty. I'm just proud of myself that I got over that and now I can go out bare faced feeling happy and confident!
Thank you all so much for reading and never forget to look on the bright side of things and remember all of the little things that can make you feel such joy and happiness!
