Hello everybody! So since I will be going to school soon for Fashion Design and Merchandising, I feel like I need to do some research on the major fashion designers. I already know bits and pieces from each designer, so it won't be that much of a surprise, but I just want to go in there knowing my shit- ya know?
Fashion is and always has been a major interest of mine, so I'm super stoked to be going to school for something that I'm completely in love with and eager to know more about! I honestly have never in my life been this excited to start school again!
So today's blog is just going to be about some fashion-related books that I've been wanting to get, to sort of study and go back on whenever I feel the need to. I'm not sure what I'll be doing or studying on exactly at school, but I just want to get ahead of the game on my knowledge of the biggest fashion icons and be ready for anything they might throw my way!
So obviously, the first one is Chanel. She's probably my favorite one to learn about, she's such an inspiration and her designs are absolutely incredible! She's supposably widely regarded as the "greatest fashion designer who ever lived" so I definitely need do tons of research about her and know everything there is about Coco Chanel. (Which her real name is actually Gabrielle Chanel- I knew that though!) There's also many more books I'd like to read about her that I've pinned on Pinterest, but I picked this one to share because it's more for researching purposes.
Another designer I catch myself researching already is Louis Vuitton. Just like Chanel, LV is a French fashion designer and I seriously could look at BOTH of their products all day long. I am yet to own an authentic Chanel and Louis Vuitton bag. My life would be complete! LV is such a powerful brand and I'm just dying to know more and take notes for sure!
Alexander McQueen is a designer that I absolutley love!- He's right up there with Chanel on my list of favorite fashion designers! His style is absolutely weird, different, creepy, but incredible and I am in LOVE with it! He's definitely a very different designer amongst the rest, but he is someone that I look up to and admire deeply! He's my Tim Burton of fashion designers! His work is GOALS!
Now to the designers I'm not so familiar with... First one, Christian Dior. Now don't get me wrong, I've seen and heard of his designs and products, I just didn't really know much about him or his brand. I'm telling you, this is why I'm pushing myself to do some research! I went on Amazon and read the recommendations on each designer's books, and this one in particular (on the left) interest me the most. I also found another book (on the right) that Dior wrote, and it's a biography! You guys know how much I love bio's and memoir's, so I added it right to my list of fashion reads! I also think it's very important to learn about the designer's personally, and not just by their work so I'm very excited!
Another one I'm actually ashamed to not know much about is Yves Saint Laurent; but just like Dior, I have seen his designs and products many many times! YSL is apparently "the most influential designers of the second half of the twentieth century" so I definitely need to step up my game and get to know more about this successful French designer!
I also need to learn more about Valentino! I'm telling you, the more I go on with writing this blog, the more I realize how much I know nothing about some of the biggest well-known designers! This is crazy! I'm so embarrassed right now.. Haha!
Lastly, Tom Ford. All I know about him is that he help Gucci become what it is today. Enough with blogging about this though, I need to start ordering these books and get to studying!- Don't judge me!
Of course there's so many more incredible fashion designers that I haven't mentioned that I need to know and read up on, so I'm going to get on that and do so as soon as I can!
Thanks so much for reading and I hope this encourages you to do a little bit of research yourselves on the designers that influences you the most! I will be the happiest with myself when I can honestly say that I know a good chunk about each of the most famous fashion designers, and even the the ones who aren't that famous! This industry is just so fascinating to me and the history behind it all is just so interesting!
Being the big reader that I am though, I also have some other books on my reading list that have to do with fashion designers and brands and I'll just put them below with links attached so that you can simply click the cover that interests you, and will be taken to the site where you can read what it's about!
Thanks again for reading and enjoy your weekend!
